| Greetings
The Fourth Asia Pacific Interdisciplinary
Research in Accounting (APIRA) Conference, organized by Singapore
Management University (SMU) in conjunction
with the
Accounting Auditing & Accountability
Journal (AAAJ), and the Nanyang Business
School of the Nanyang
Technological Univeristy will be hosted
in Singapore in 2004. This will be its 4th triennial conference,
after successful conferences in Sydney (1995), Osaka (1998),
and Adelaide (2001).
With a reputation for academic
rigor, and the participation of accountancy's foremost thinkers,
APIRA2004 promises to attract strong representation from accounting
researchers the world over. Some of the most prolific researchers
from the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, the Asia-Pacific
region, and many other countries are represented in APIRA's
International Editorial Committee. A strong interdisciplinary
program of research papers and forums addressing the relationships
between accounting, auditing and accountability and their
social, institutional, economic and political environments
will be included in the program.
As a further enticement, APIRA2004
will be held in the "Lion City". Singapore has built
a reputation as one the most efficient and popular convention
cities in the Asia-Pacific region. It lies at the focal point
of age-old trading routes, where people of different cultures
and traditions have come together for almost 200 years, creating
a multicultural and multifaceted destination. It is an inspiring
city of contrasts, where the flavor, charm and spirituality
of the East meet the comfort, convenience, and efficiency
of the West.
So mark your diary, and plan to
be in the garden city of Singapore from 4 to 6 July 2004,
for an exhilarating period of intensive discussions, debates,
and networking with leading and emerging scholars in our field.
