Words from the President

Dear faculty, staff, students and friends,

A simple idea of our colleagues in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions has grown into a substantial community service project that has the support of many friends and acquaintances of SMU as well as many of our own staff.

I refer to the new 18 month calendar entitled “A Window to our Soul”, which is a light-hearted take on the softer aspects of SMU. Russel Wong, the well-known photographer, has done a series of striking black and white portraits of ordinary members of the SMU community – students, parents, faculty, staff and senior administrators. These “talents” have graciously volunteered their time and bared their souls for a good cause.

The calendars are priced at S$15 each, and every dollar will go directly to the Children’s Cancer Foundation.

The calendar covers eighteen months, from January 2007 through the entire 2007-08 academic year. Major SMU dates, such as Convocation, Commencement, end of term, and holidays are all noted to make the calendar a useful planning tool.

I hope you will share in the spirit of giving, by getting a book for yourself and others as gifts for your friends and family. You will enjoy the calendar itself, which can lighten your own day, and at the same time you can contribute to others who are in need.
