Commencement Ceremony
Date and Venue
Commencement 2008 will be held on 12 July 2008 (Saturday), 1300 hr, at Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre. The university-wide Commencement ceremony will be held at Convention Halls 601-602 (Level 6).
Guests and graduands will attend the university-wide Commencement ceremony at Convention Halls 601-602 first before proceeding to the respective venues for the degree award ceremonies (held concurrently by individual schools).

Valedictorian
The prestigious Valedictorian Award is given annually to the most outstanding student of each graduating cohort, a personality with all-round capabilities who has made outstanding contributions to the student body, the University and/or the public at large. He/she is expected to possess a summa cum laude. The selection will be made by a panel comprising the Provost, Deans and the award donor.
The Award will be presented at the SMU Commencement Ceremony. The recipient will deliver the Valedictorian Address on behalf of the graduating body of students.
Salutatorian
The Salutatorian Award will be given out to the second highest ranking student in the graduating class, chosen based on his or her outstanding outstanding academic, leadership and co-curricular achievements.
The Award will be presented at the SMU Commencement Ceremony and the Salutatorian will give a short address on behalf of the graduating body of students.
