ICS-ITI Professional Shipping Programme &
ICS-ITI Foundation Shipping Programme

ITI@SMU and the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (Singapore Branch) (“ICS”) have entered into a partnership to jointly develop and deliver shipping related courses with the objective of raising professional standards across the shipping industry.

The ICS-ITI Professional Shipping Programme and ICS-ITI Foundation Shipping Programme offer comprehensive education in the shipping sector and are modelled after the ICS distance learning Tutorship Programme which leads to certification. The Professional Shipping Programme is intended to prepare candidates to take the Professional Qualifying Examinations while the Foundation Shipping Programme is suited for candidates taking the Foundation Diploma. Both qualifications are conferred by ICS and are the only globally recognised professional qualification in shipping for personnel in all spheres of the shipping industry.

Who Should Attend

The ICS-ITI Professional Shipping and Foundation Shipping programmes are suited for new and aspiring entrants to the shipping industry and for shipping personnel wishing to raise their professional standards through the certification programme.

Trainer Profile

The tutors are from the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (Singapore Branch), an ITI@SMU Knowledge Partner. ICS is the only internationally recognised professional body representing shipbrokers, ship managers and agents throughout the world. A major provider of education and training, the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers sets and examines the syllabus for membership providing the shipping industry with highly qualified professionals. All the tutors are either practising or recently retired from the industry and are specialists in their respective fields.

Programme Structure

ICS-ITI Professional Shipping Programme (distance-learning)
Package of any 4 subjects
ICS-ITI Foundation Shipping Programme (distance-learning)

Foundation Pack (for ICS Foundation Diploma)
- Package of 2 subjects (Introduction to Shipping from Group 1 & any 1 subject from Group 2)

Advanced Pack (for ICS Advanced Diploma)
- Package of 2 subjects (Shipping Business from Group 1 & any 1 subject from Group 2)

 

Once enrolled, the student will receive the relevant course book and a tutor will be assigned to guide him/her through the topic. Each course book contains self assessment and a further 10 “Test” questions and a mock exam that can be submitted for marking and comments to a tutor. The ICS-ITI Professional Shipping Programme is delivered by the tutor primarily via email.

Please note that enrolment for the ICS-ITI Shipping Programme does not register you for the Professional Qualifying Examination and/or Foundation/Advanced Diploma Examination offered by ICS.

The ICS Professional Qualifying Examination and Foundation Diploma Examination are usually held in April each year. All candidates for the ICS examinations have to register as students of the Institute before they may enter for the examinations.
