The BNP Paribas Hedge Fund Centre organized an annual hedge fund conference on 30 October 2009. Fund managers, investors, service providers, and academics were invited to discuss and develop a holistic view of the topic: The Future of the Hedge Fund Industry. The event attracted over 230 participants and delegates.
The recent fallout from the financial crisis has dramatically changed the global hedge fund landscape. Yet, clearly the hedge fund industry is here to stay and the hunt for alpha continues. But many burning questions remain unresolved especially for managers, investors, and regulators.
What are the regulatory risks that hedge funds now face? How has re-hypothecation and the collapse of Lehman Brothers changed the way hedge funds manage counterparty risks? Why is it that, despite their purportedly low market exposures, so many hedge funds were affected by the global liquidity crunch? How have redemption gates and the co-mingling of assets affected hedge fund investors? What is the future of the hedge fund industry?
The Hedge Fund Executive Education Programme took place from 28th to 29th October 2009. It is opened to players with interest in the Hedge Fund Industry such as investors, private bankers, finance practitioners, and professionals seeking a career in Hedge Funds. Seminars were delivered by professors from the London Business School and SMU, and they focused on areas such as hedge fund risks, investment strategies, and performance. To aid learning, the course was featured real world case studies (LTCM, Amaranth, Harvard Endowment, etc), presentations by hedge fund managers, and discussions by professional hedge fund investors.
