ACI - SMU FICS Financial Markets Training & Certification Pathway

Overview

The Financial Training Institute @ SMU, in partnership with ACI Asia – The Financial Markets Association Limited, and ACI Singapore – The Financial Markets Association, offers a suite of training and assessment programmes for financial markets professionals in the front, middle and bank offices. The FICS accredited competency-based training and assessment programmes, benchmarked to industry best practices, aim to provide participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance workplace performance.

 

Entry Level

ACI-SMU FICS Financial Markets Operations Certificate (Role III)

This is an enhanced version of the ACI Singapore's Settlement Office Training Course (SOTC), mapped to the exacting requirements of the Financial Industry Competency Standards (FICS).

It serves as an induction programme for new hires into back office operations, to help them familiarize with the set-up, roles and responsibilities of financial markets operations. The curriculum covers the deal processing and settlement processes of essential financial markets cash and securities instruments, and exchange traded derivatives.

The programme incorporates key topics covered in the ACI Operations Certificate. Upon completion, participants will have the additional option to sign up separately for the ACI Operations Certificate Examination. Separate fees and conditions apply.

Participants who have successfully completed ACI Singapore's Settlement Office Training Course (SOTC) may opt to go for the bridging class, before taking the assessments. Successful candidates will be awarded the ACI-SMU FICS Financial Markets Operations Certificate.

ACI-SMU FICS Financial Markets Certificate (Role IV)

This is the foundational programme that focuses on providing participants with an overview of the financial markets. Curriculum covers key concepts, principles and applications of different financial instruments, aims to enhance technical knowledge of participants in the rapidly changing financial market arena.

This programme incorporates key topics covered in the ACI Dealing Certificate. Upon completion, participants will have the additional option to sign up separately for the ACI Dealing Certificate Examination. Separate fees and conditions apply.

Prospective entrants and junior executives involved in trading, treasury sales, product control and operations, or mid-career professionals with non-financial markets backgrounds, will benefit from this programme.

Advanced Level

ACI-SMU FICS Financial Markets Advanced Certificate (Role V)

For experienced financial markets professionals with at least 2-3 years experience and prior knowledge in foreign exchange and interest rates products, they may opt to go directly to attend the ACI-SMU FICS Advanced Certificate (V). Curriculum covers complex financial instruments such as exotic and credit derivatives and structured products, and aims to enhance technical knowledge of participants to keep pace with product trends and developments in financial markets.

Professional / Specialist / Graduate Certificates

When a participant successfully passes all the assessments pertaining to the specific job function at Job Role IV, the participant will be awarded the ACI-SMU Professional Certificate in Treasury Sales, Product Control or Financial Markets Operations.

When a participant successfully passes all the assessments pertaining to the specific job function at Job Role V & VI, the participant will be awarded the ACI-SMU Specialist Certificate in Product Control or Financial Markets Operations, and ACI-SMU Graduate Certificate in Product Control or Financial Markets Operations, respectively.

Exemptions

Participants need to enroll for the training programme if they wish to take the assessment. However, they may be exempted from attending classes, with documentary supports (e.g. certificate, testimonial from financial institutions where they are employed) of prior knowledge from previous training or relevant work experience. Notwithstanding this, all participants are encouraged to attend the classes to better prepare themselves for the requirements of the assessment criteria.
