What Themin Says

To me it was great that CTL was prepared to look at both traditional and less-traditional course materials. Accounting is often presented in a proper theoretical order, but this is inconsistent with the way business owners and managers face in the business world, from formulating a business plan, sourcing finances and funding, implementing the plan and monitoring results. To do this, you need a story, something that the students can immerse in, learn business skills along the way, and see how accounting information makes a difference!

I believe we have done this successfully with the Movies-Door-2-Door.Com story. This captivating interactive story-telling format complements theories and technical knowledge covered in textbooks and case studies. Each episode is time-released automatically in Vista and Discussion Board is extremely active. Last term, there were over 300 messages in the first 3 weeks of term, I have to restrain the students from posting so much!

It has been a great fun for me and the casts of over 15 students (and one other faculty, thanks KS!) to work on the project. My thanks also to Roy Ng of CTL who has managed all my FCDS projects.
