Ms Saw Phaik Hwa is the President and CEO of SMRT Corporation Ltd, the first multi-modal public transport operator in Singapore comprising mass rapid transit, light rail, buses and taxis. With her vast and extensive experience in international corporate business prior to joining SMRT Corporation in December 2002, Phaik Hwa offers a fresh approach to the way public transport is managed and operated in Singapore . She has been instrumental in the development and implementation of new and key initiatives in the SMRT group of companies. In addition to the management of current operations, she is also working closely with the authorities on the development of a new 33.3km line that SMRT Corporation will operate by 2010.

Phaik Hwa has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biochemistry from the National University of Singapore and has undergone an advanced management programme at the University of Hawaii . An ardent supporter of life arts, she is Advisor to the Singapore Life Art Society. Phaik Hwa is an ardent practitioner in taiji and sits on the Council as Vice President for both Singapore Jian Chuan Tai Chi Chuan Physical Culture Association and the Executive Committee of the International Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Federation. She is also appointed as Governor for Singapore & Malaysia for the international body of Wu's Tai Chi Chuan Academy.

Phaik Hwa sits on the Singapore Management University Board of Trustees, The Esplanade Board of Directors, Board of Trustees for the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Charity Fund, Board of Trustees for the Youth Business Singapore, Singapore Totalisator Board as Member of Sports Sub-Committee, a Resource Panel Member for Government Parliamentary Committee (Transport) and Member of 10TouchPoints Steering Committee.
