Dr Loo Choon Yong

Dr Loo Choon Yong is the Executive Chairman of Raffles Medical Group Limited, one of Singapore's leading private integrated healthcare providers. He co-founded the Raffles Medical Group in 1976 and was appointed to his current position in 1997. Dr Loo holds a number of directorships in several companies, including International Medical Insurers Pte Ltd and Raffles Hospital Pte Ltd.
Dr Loo was appointed by the President of Singapore as the Ambassador to the Italian Republic from March 2006 and Nominated Member of Parliament from January 2005 to May 2006 and again from January 2007. He chairs the Sentosa Development Corporation Ltd and Sentosa Golf Club. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Singapore Management University ( SMU ) and Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC). He also serves as Council Member to the North East Community Development Council (CDC). He is the Chairman of the Asian Medical Foundation Ltd.
Dr Loo had been active in the fight against drug abuse from February 1998 to December 2008 and formerly served as Chairman of National Council Against Drug Abuse (NCADA) and President of Singapore Anti-Narcotic Association (SANA). Dr Loo was also the former Deputy Chairman of the Action Committee for Entrepreneurship (ACE), a public-private collaboration to promote entrepreneurship in Singapore. He also served as a member of the Government Economic Review Committee (ERC) and Chairman of the ERC's Healthcare Services Working Group (HSWG). He was appointed by the Minister for Finance to the Council on Corporate Disclosure and Governance (CCDG), a national body on corporate disclosure and governance including prescribing of accounting standards in Singapore.
Besides his medical training, Dr Loo also read Law at the University of London and is a member of Middle Temple.
Dr Loo was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2003 and the Distinguished Service Award in September 2005 from the Ministry of Home Affairs for contributions to Singapore's fight against drug abuse.
