Born in Malaysia , Mr Kuok Koon Ean holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Nottingham University in the UK.

Mr Kuok has been with the Kuok Group since 1978 and is a Director of Kuok ( Singapore ) Ltd, Singapore, Kerry Group Limited, Kerry Holdings Ltd, Hong Kong and Chairman of SCMP Group Limited. SCMP Group Limited publishes Hong Kong's leading English language newspapers and is also involved in the publication of consumer magazines and retail distribution in Hong Kong . He has been serving as a Court and Council Member of The University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong since March 2002.

Mr. Kuok was recently appointed a non-Executive Director of Wilmar International Ltd, a company listed on the Stock Exchange of Singapore.

He had served on various statutory bodies in Singapore; namely the Sentosa Development Corporation from 1 st March 1993 to 1 st March 2000, the Singapore Trade Development Board from 1995 to 1998 and the Singapore Tourism Board from 2000 to 2001.
