The school is very supportive for such “out of the classroom” learning and this has definitely enriched my academic life in SMU.

Internships & Community Service

SMU’s internship programme provides our undergraduates with real world insight in a diversity of industries. All our students complete 10 weeks of internship in established business organisations either locally or overseas. In fact, many of them enjoyed internships so much that more than half of our students do between two to six internships, which help them make informed career choices. Many are also talent spotted and are offered jobs before they graduate.

In grooming visionary entrepreneurs and global business leaders of tomorrow. SMU recognises the importance of preparing our students beyond their studies so that they could become responsible and active citizens, demonstrating compassion, leadership and integrity within the communities they live and work.

An important feature of the SMU curriculum is the internship and community service programme at established organisations, both local and international. The internship programme aims to provide students with a deeper cross-cultural appreciation of business practices and research.

The community service programme requires students to be actively involved, to serve and give back to society. This is to inculcate in students the value of being responsible and civic-minded citizens of society

Community Service

To give back to society, SMU students are required to complete a minimum of 80 hours of community service. Through this, students gain new perspectives on humanity, society, education and the environment – perspectives that help them develop a more mature outlook in life. You find yourself humbled, and at the same time, uplifted by the experience. It will leave a lasting and a character-building impression on you.
