Outstanding students are recognised and rewarded with distinguished scholarships awarded by SMU, donor organisations and partner philanthropists. They all provide a generous monetary package, and for some of them, opportunities for global exposure, allowing students to be immersed in another culture and form networks with like-minded individuals from within Singapore as well as from overseas countries. They also open doors to internships and employment at renowned organisations upon graduation.
A new Centre for Scholars' Development (CSD) has been set up to implement and oversee a mentorship scheme and other development programmes for a select group of scholars. Under the CSD, these scholars will get to participate in prestigious events such as CEO talks/dinners, global business competitions, and special seminars and conferences.

This programme offers scholars the flexibility of pursuing a single degree or a double degree. It looks for outstanding leaders who are great thinkers and greater doers; who lead well and serve even better. Each scholarship provides a generous package that includes a global exposure programme in the form of an overseas study trip and a community service project. Other benefits include opportunities to participate in CEO talks/seminars, global business competitions, special seminars and conferences. Up to 75 scholarships are given away each year.
Eligibility Criteria
- Full-time SMU first year undergraduate student of any nationality.
- Outstanding academic results.
- Excellent leadership and communications skills.
- Outstanding co-curricular activities.
- Good record of community service involvement.
- Exemplary conduct that embodies the SMU CIRCLE Values of Commitment, Integrity, Responsibility, Collegiality, Leadership and Excellence.
Tenure & Benefits
- Each scholarship covers annual tuition fees for Term 1 and Term 2.
- Scholars will receive an annual cash allowance of $5,000.
- Scholars will receive a notebook grant.
- Scholars will receive a one-off overseas study trip allowance.
- Scholars will participate in a mentorship scheme under the Centre for Scholars' Development.
- No bond is required under the terms of this Scholarship
Tuition Grant Scheme
- Scholars are required to take advantage of the Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS) provided by the Singapore Government for subsidised education.
- Under the TGS, non-Singaporean scholars will be obligated to work for Singapore-based companies for a minimum period of three years upon graduation.
