For applicants with H1/H2/H3 subjects

• Good passes in at least 3 H2 content-based subjects, 1 H1 content-based subject, Project Work and General Paper (GP) or Knowledge & Inquiry (KI). Other acceptable subject combinations include : 4 H2 content-based subjects, Project Work and GP; or 3 H2 content-based subjects, Project Work and KI. Law applicants must have A or B grade for GP/KI.

• A good pass in Mathematics at O-level.

• A minimum of "S" grade in Mother Tongue Language (MTL) at H1 level, or a D7 grade in Higher MTL at O-Level or a Pass in MTL Syllabus B. Successful applicants who have not met the Mother Tongue requirement can still be admitted on a Conditional Offer but must satisfy the requirement before graduating from SMU.

• Interview/essay writing for shortlisted applicants.

1. SAT is optional but an added advantage for those with strong scores.
   1. SAT / ACT scores must reach SMU by 31 May to be considered.
   2. A score of 1900 or more will be minimally sufficient for applicants to make a competitive application.
   3. Please note that meeting the SAT guideline does not guarantee admission as admission to SMU is competitive and selective. The more competitive schools will usually require scores of more than 1900. SMU will consider SAT scores for tests up to and including the May SAT. For example, to be considered for 2012, the last test to be considered will be the May 2012 SAT. Applicants should therefore take their SAT early and be solely responsible for ensuring that SAT scores are sent to SMU on time.
   4. For the 2012 admission, only the SAT scores obtained in the 5 years up to 31 May 2012 will be considered, that is, SAT scores from tests taken before May 2007 will not be considered.

For applicants with A/AO subjects

Retaking your A-Level examinations

Applicants who think that they are unlikely to secure admission to SMU in 2012 are advised to consider retaking their A-Level examinations in 2012 as private candidates.  Registration for the examinations will be conducted in March 2012 by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) website at www.seab.gov.sg or contact the Ministry of Education Customer Service Hotline at 6872-2220.
