Synopsis:
Originating from an ancient Greek word, the Orchid had a long and enduring association with sexual reproduction. Join Peggy Tan as she takes you down a fascinating journey from the history and geographic distribution of orchids to present-day appeal of this unique and highly evolved family of plants. What was once a symbol of honorable gentlemen in China and Japan, extolling the virtues of wisdom and high principles, the Orchid today has seized the interest and curiosity of many scientists, horticulturalists, hobbyists, artists and general admirers worldwide. Peggy will touch on various aspects of this fascination, including the wealth of species--did you know that there are 26,000 species on record and experts estimate at least another 26,000 or more remain to be discovered. Did you know that Darwin is the father of modern orchid research?
