On your first login, you will be prompted to change your password for the first time.
IMPORTANT:
Your password must meet all of the following conditions:
- Should not be related or be based on the user's account name.
- Contain "characters" from at least 3 out of the following 4 categories:
- Uppercase alphabet characters (A-Z)
- Lowercase alphabet characters (a-z)
- Arabic numerals (0 - 9)
- Non-alphanumeric characters (for example, !$#, %&)
- Contain eight (8) characters or more.
Your password is valid for 180 days after which you would need to change the password before it expires.
You can change your password prior to its expiration by following the steps below.
On your browser, go to https://live.smu.edu.sg/_SSO/Login.aspx
1. Click the link that says Change your password click here.

2. On the user name, put your SMU domain username only (without the domain).

3. On the Old Password, put the about to expire password.
4. On the New Password, and confirm password put the new password.
5. Then click Change Password button.

6. A successful change of password would show a confirmation such as below.

7. You may use the new password on your next domain login.
Once your password expires, you can reset it via different ways. There are 3 methods on how you can reset your password.
Reset your Password via SMS (Method 1)
You can use SMU's 24 hours self-help password reset service via SMS. (Note: You must register your mobile number first shown in step 1 before you can use this SMS reset service.)
Step 1. Registering Your Mobile Phone Number by sending the following SMS to 90701882:

e.g. register mike.ng.2005 P@ssword 123456 123456
Note: PIN must be 6 character/digit and can be alphanumeric, letters or numbers |
Note: Plain text only. Forwarded SMS might not work.
Step 2. Send following SMS to 90701882 if you want to reset your password:

reset <username> <PIN>
e.g . reset mike.ng.2005 123456 |
Note: that the same reset commands send via SMS will perform both functions of resetting your password, as well as unlocking your account.
Reset your Password via email request to helpdesk@smu.edu.sg (Method 2)
Please provide the following identification details in the email for helpdesk to do verifications:
- Full NRIC Name
- NRIC number
- SMU User ID
- Mobile Contact Number
- Home Address
Helpdesk will verify the given information with SMU student record database and will reply within 3 working days.
Reset your Password via making a visit to IITS Helpdesk as a Walk-In (Method 3)
You can visit IITS helpdesk during office hours from Mon-Fri: 8:30am -7:00pm (Last walk-in 6:30pm) for your reset of password. Helpdesk will be closed on Sat, Sun and Public Holidays.
