Access
Network (H: I: J: ) drive for Windows 2000/ XP
Before
you proceed
-
Ensure VPN has been successfully installed
- Your
internet connection is established
- You
have established connection with VPN

Click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>Window Explorer.

Click on Tools > Map Network Drives
- At
Drive:, select H: and at
Folder :, key in as shown below and click Finish.
For
Faculty/Staff, key in \\fs01\users\username,
eg \\fs01\users\charlestay
For Student, key in \\fs21\users\username,
eg \\fs21\users\charles.tay.2001

You will be prompted to key in your user name and password.
Key in as shown:-
- To
map to Applications drive, at Drive:
select I: and at Folder: key
in as shown
below and click Finish.
- To
map to J: Drive, at Drive: select J: and
at Folder: key in as shown below and click Finish.
For Faculty/Staff, key in \\pwf01\username$ , eg \\pwf01\charlestay$
For Student, key in \\pwf01\username$, eg \\pwf01\charles.tay.2001$

You will be able to see the network drives that you had mapped
in your window explorer.
For
more transparent and user friendly access from home XP machines
you can refer to the below additional advises:

Create a local user account whose name is the same as your SMU
userid, |
| B. |
Make
sure the local user account uses the same password as your SMU
userid, |
| C. |
Always
initiate VPN and perform work related operations from that local
account. |

Always
keep both accounts' password in sync. (same password) |
Please
note, however, any compromise to the local account would have
effectively the same impact as if your SMU account has been compromised.
