Email Service

  1. How can I access my SMU email?
  2. You can retrieve SMU Email if you have Internet access from home or overseas using a dial-up modem, cable modem or any broadband access.

  3. If I purchase my own Microsoft Office 2007, can I use the Microsoft Outlook 2007 instead?
  4. In this case, you do not need to uninstall/reinstall Microsoft Office 2007 to Microsoft Office 2003. You can use the Microsoft Outlook 2007 by configuring the email client from the link below.

  5. What is the mailbox space allocated for SMU staff?
  6. Each staff and faculty is given 1GB of mailbox space. The following table explains the behaviors when the quota is reached.

  7. My mailbox is full and I could not send out Email. What should I do?
  8. This means that you have exceeded your Email quota. You need to perform housekeeping regularly.

  9. Can I move my email to a folder so that I can reduce the Email quota?
  10. You can keep your Email and conserve your Email quota at the same time by storing these emails into Personal Folders. You will need to create a personal folder before you can transfer your Email to it. Once you have created a personal folder, you will need to perform regular backups.

  11. How do I set up auto-reply to incoming messages to inform all senders that I am away and unable to access my emails?
  12. You can make use of the "Out of Office Assistant" to inform all your senders while you are away. Your Email will still be sent to your mailbox, except your senders will be informed of your unavailability. When you are back, you can disable this feature.
