SMU 10th AnniversaryIt is amazing how time flies. In 2010, it will be ten years since SMU was chartered as Singapore's first autonomous university. We welcomed the first batch of 306 undergraduates to the business school in August 2000. Today, we have about 7000 undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in some 20 degree programmes across our six Schools. They are taught by a full-time distinguished faculty of more than 300, who are also engaged in serious research at the highest levels. These faculty members are supported by almost 400 dedicated staff and a superb cohort of adjunct faculty who come from Singapore business, education and arts communities. A university is built on the simple idea of people coming together to learn more about the world and to make it a better place. Through our broad-based curriculum and interactive teaching pedagogy, we seek to foster critical thinking, innovation, ethical responsibility and a commitment to society among our students. We also draw strength from collaborative partnerships with leading overseas universities. We would not have come so far without the tremendous endorsement and support from parents, employers, donors, the government and private sectors, as well as the wider public, for SMU's vision and our work. As we look back and celebrate our 10th Anniversary, I invite everyone to join our students, faculty, staff and alumni at the many events and programmes we have lined up for 2010 to mark our tenth anniversary.
